Connecticut Law Enforcement Agencies Required to Record Interviews
After ten years of efforts from law makers, Senate Bill No. 954 was signed by Governor Daniel Malloy to require that custodial interrogations at a law enforcement facility be electronically recorded. The bill can be found here http://www.cga.ct.gov/2011/act/pa/pdf/2011PA-00174-R00SB-00954-PA.pdf. Connecticut joins nearby states Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and New Jersey who have similar recording requirements.
Law makers have scheduled a compliance date for January 14th, 2014. This gives law enforcement agencies a couple of years to go through budgetary process to purchase new equipment. CaseCracker has been in use for over six years in states with similar recording requirements. We look forward to working with law enforcement agencies in Connecticut to make this transition to recording interviews an easy one!
